Footpaths (Rights of Way)

Dunkirk Parish Council is responsible for a public right of way to the site of its own playing field.

The countryside around Dunkirk is criss-crossed with bridleways and footpaths. There is a leaflet produced by Blean Walkers that show many of the paths and walkways available to the public as well as highlighting the paths and the diversity of the surrounding countryside. There is also a Noticeboard at the Bus stop outside the Red Lion Public House which shows some of the popular walking routes in the area.

Rights of Way comes under Kent County Council who should be contacted in cases of problems.

Summary: The Big Blean Walk is a waymarked walking route which explores the Blean Woods, north of Canterbury. The walk was opened in May 2012. Throughout the walk there are 18 interpretive panels which promote The Blean to visitors and locals and which invite people to explore the history and nature of The Blean. The Walk was developed by the Kentish Stour Countryside Partnership as a member of the Blean Initiative, which is a partnership of landowners, local authorities, parish councils, conservation bodies and community groups that look after and promote The Blean. The Big Blean Walk is part funded by Heritage Lottery, the Kent Wildlife Trust and the European Community sponsored Landscape and Nature for All Project. Places visited during the walk which begins and ends at Selling Station on the Chatham Main Line include Court Wood, Dunkirk (Bougton under Blean), Blean Woods National Nature Reserve, Clay Hill, Clowes Wood, West Blean Wood, East Blean Wood, Tyler Hill, Harbledown and Rough Common, Chartham Hatch and Denstem Wood.
